Impact of Irrigation on Farmers Acreage Response to Price-Case of Andhra Pradesh

Introduction DEVELOPMENT of irrigation facilities is often considered as a pre-condition for adoption of successively more intensive techniques of agricultural production. More importantly, availability of irrigation makes the production process more flexible to human decision-making and choices by weakening the constraints of lack of water for the cultivation of crops. Thus farmers in the irrigated areas are likely to be more responsive to an economic incentive than their counterparts in the unirrigated areas in terms of crop pat tern shifts and in their endeavours to raise the yield per hectare Although the above proposition has been made by several authors, not enough empirical evidence is available to support it In this paper, we will make an attempt to examine the impact of irrigation on farmers' acreage response behaviour to changes in the output prices.
