COP27 and Effective Adaptation
.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has suggested a climate change risk assessment framework integrating top-down and bottom-up approaches for measuring climate hazards, exposure, and vulnerability. The multiplicative impact of these three determinants has led to socio-economic pathways, adaptation actions, and governance.
The United Nations (UN) Climate Action cell conjectures that a significant drop-off in global agricultural yields of up to 30% by 2050 can be avoided if more farms install solar-powered irrigation, cultivate climate-resilient crop varieties, can access weather-smart technologies, and adaptive measures. So, adaptation measures by developed and developing countries entail strengthening governance for adaptation and its finance, which are one of the key agendas in 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), in addition to broadening and deepening adaptation measures, preserving biodiversity, and attaining net zero emissions.
