The work on this book Mutinies for Equality: Contemporary Developments in Law and Gender in India started with a meeting between the editors and the authors in Berlin in 2018, that initiated discussions for two long years which shaped this book. As mentioned in the title, the book focuses on the contemporary developments in
law and gender in India. A coll­ection of 14 essays is divided into three sections with an introduction by the editors. Tanja Herklotz and Sidd­harth Peter de Souza have stressed that they wanted to place these legal debates in the sociopolitical ground reality of Indian society. As they mention,

[w]e attempt to understand where and how these inequalities continue to persist in India by looking at three distinct locales in which inequalities play out: normative orders, institutions and communities. (p 5)
