Afghanistan’s Struggle for Peace
.
Forty-two years have passed since the Soviet Union-led military invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. The communists have been dispersed. Various governments have come to power. The rise of the Taliban is still visible in Afghanistan.
The latest news is that the conflict between the Taliban and government forces is escalating. The Taliban group is presenting statistics on various types of military success. According to them, they control 90% of Afghanistan’s borders. However, the Afghan defence ministry has denied the Taliban’s claim. The ministry said the area under Afghan government control was expanding and districts that had been lost were being recaptured one by one from the Taliban.
