Political System: Abstract or Concrete?

In the second phase, the spread of COVID-19 has acquired a dangerous proportion and gone out of control. The phenomenal surge of COVID-19 can be attributed to the collapse of the health infrastructure and necessary support from the government. The Editorial and the Comment in the current issue offer an account of the failure of health infrastructure and the access to vaccines in the country. The failure to control the spread of the virus, however, has led to a shift in the blame game. Until yesterday, it was the opposition, the states ruled by parties other than the one ruling at the centre, and the people, who were held responsible for the spread. What is more astonishing to note is that a section of the media has got a fantastic idea to map the blame on to the system rather than on those who are supposed to manage the system.

In this regard, it is important to underline the attitude which is commonly observed in a system that is made to revolve around personalities rather than principles. In such a personality-driven system, the success is often attributed to an individual while the failure is blamed on the system. Therefore, in the present crisis, the media seems to have chosen to blame the system and not the personality.
