Commercialisation of Education

.

The present state of education is worrisome. The list of the reasons behind the indiscriminate marginalisation of minorities includes the comprehensive takeover of education by corporations.

It seems that the rampant privatisation of education will continue unabated because the National Education Policy (NEP) draft contains no substantial measures to tackle it. The present situation of education is actually the formative stage of a dangerous mixture of neo-liberalism and status quoist education. The commodification of education is reducing it to a consumer product. The NEP’s endorsement of liberal arts is too little, too late. It is entirely ineffectual because this championing of liberal arts does not come with the claim to thwart the marketisation of education. Before discussing the possible remedies, it is imperative to recognise the maladies in the existing education apparatus. I would like to address the fountainhead of the current educational predicament, which is the fanatic advocacy of neo-liberal education.
