Reservation That Is Anti-reservation
.
The Constitution (124th Amendment) Bill, 2019 to enable reservations for economically weaker sections (EWSs) among the upper castes was passed with an absolute brute majority in both the houses of Parliament. The move for 10% reservation for the economically poor among the upper caste is against the idea of caste-based reservation and is a political stunt to coagulate the upper-caste vote bank before the general election 2019.
Almost every sphere of the Indian society, polity, economy and administrative system is largely dominated by the so-called upper castes, except casual menial jobs that are virtually reserved for lower castes without adequate social security. The Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SCs/STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) have had to fight to claim their legitimate representation through reservations. And, this effortless 10% reservation has strangely come without any pressure exerted by the prospective beneficiaries.
