It has been well known that for several years now, the government had turned a blind eye to the spread of illegal herbicide-tolerant (HT) genetically modified (GM) cotton in Maharashtra. The report of a special investigation team set up in 2017–18 to look into the matter has not been put into the public domain and it is not clear whether a report has been submitted or not.
