Voices from the Periphery

I slands in Flux: The Andamanand Nicobar Story is a compilation of Pankaj Sekhsaria’s journalistic pieces and academic papers published over the past two decades. The book discusses a wide array of issues related to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands—indigenous communities, environment and ecology, development, security, and the Indian Ocean tsunami, 2004.

The book comprises 25 chapters divided into six sections, apart from an introductory chapter by activist Harsh Mander, 26 colour photographs from the 1990s and the 2000s, and five appendices, including the Recommendations of the Shekhar Singh Commission (2002), a Supreme Court order dated 7 May 2002, Policy on the Jarawa Tribe of Andaman Islands (2004), an opinion piece on the Jarawa by a Port Blair-based journalist, and a historical timeline of the events in the islands. Most of the articles featured in this book were first republished by Sekhsaria in his 2003 book: Troubled Islands: Writings on the Indigenous Peoples and Environment of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
