For Amnesty's Sake

.

According to media reports, the Bengaluru Police have filed a criminal case against Amnesty International India for organising an event as part of a campaign to seek justice for human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. The event involved discussions with families from Kashmir, who were featured in a 2015 report, and who had travelled to Bengaluru to narrate their personal stories of grief and loss.

News Minute has reported that a first information report (FIR) was filed on the basis of a complaint by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student organisation affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which is linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party. The FIR reportedly mentions a number of offences including “sedition,” “unlawful assembly,” “rioting” and “promoting enmity.” Amnesty International India has not yet received a copy of the FIR.
