Some of the “remote corners” of the country, like Aizawl in Mizoram, seem to function as convenient dumping grounds for political rejects.
It is now nearly four months since Mizoram has had a reasonably stable resident Governor living in the Raj Bhavan, a most fetching and desirable residence in the heart of Aizawl.
After Vakkom Purushottaman, the Congress leader from Kerala, was removed as governor of Mizoram on 6 July 2014, when he had served less than three years of his five-year term, the state has seen somewhat of a small procession of worthies appointed or “threatened to be appointed” (more on this curious expression, below) as governor of the state. Only one of these three worthies named actually moved to Aizawl and took the oath of office as governor.
