Evolution of India’s NSI: Contrary to PA, we have sourced this data from Table 1 of “R&D Statistics Tables” which are on the website of NSTMIS. For us the business enterprise sector is akin to the private sector mentioned in the said table. We use the two, private sector enterprises and business enterprises interchangeably. Perhaps the confusion could have been avoided if we had stated our definitions. Of course business enterprise sector defined this way (as equivalent only to private sector enterprises) does not include public sector enterprises (PSEs) and if one were to add the R&D expenditure of PSEs to the above, the share of the combined business enterprise sector will exactly be equivalent to 34% as stated by PA.
