Satyam or Sensationalism?
There are serious problems with the medical services in India. Two of the most serious are the fact that high quality services are not available to large sections of the population, and the cost of top quality services, when available, is very high relative to the income of the majority of the population.

Two of the most serious are the fact that high quality services are not available to large sections of the population, and the cost of top quality services, when available, is very high relative to the income of the majority of the population.
Accelerating medical technology from the late 1980s onwards made possible medical interventions that were quite unthinkable up to then. Unfortunately, at this point of time, the Government of India faced a financial crisis and did not commit the resources required to implement these innovations and services in the government hospitals. However, many of the cutting-edge technologies did come into India, but they are largely in the private sector, and gradually, the most serious illnesses and most difficult surgeries were best performed in private sector, corporate-for-profit hospitals.
