Corruption in Karnataka

Your editorial entitled “Karnataka’s Landmine” (EPW, 6 August 2011) hit the bull’s eye and as rightly stated by you “What the report (Lok Ayuktha’s report on the corruption indulged in by the BJP government and Yeddyurappa, his family and his associates) has really done is to destroy the credibility of the principal opposition party with regard to corruption”. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has provided the most corrupt government Karnataka has ever seen in its history with several ministers of the Yeddyurappa government and others involved in all sorts of shady and questionable deals. But Yeddyurappa is still the de facto chief minister and his supporters, including corrupt ministers, have been accommodated in the new government.
