According to the UNDP's Human Development Report 2010, India continues to fall under the category of medium human development. India's ranking among 167 countries improved by one notch from 120 in 2005 to 119 in 2009 and 2010. While India was above Pakistan (125), it was well below that of China (89) and Sri Lanka (91). India's human development index in 2010 at 0.519 was an improvement over 0.482 in 2005. India's index remained significantly below the world average, which rose from 0.598 in 2005 to 0.624 in 2010.
