Remembering Lakshmi Chand Jain

There are still many Congressmen and non-Congressmen – who swear by the values and principles exemplified by Gandhiji. But not many live accordingly. One such was Lakshmi Chand Jain (LCJ) who passed away on 13 November in New Delhi at the age of 85.

Lakshmi Jain lived a rich life – not in terms of wealth but of service to the people. Despite personal hardships, he never wavered from his devotion to not just “anthyodaya” but to all those who needed help. His death has deprived the country of a rare human being, who devoted a lifetime to servicing the underprivileged and the deprived. With his wife Devaki who strove all the time to fi ght against gender discrimination, the Jains have set an example for others to follow.
