Faking an Ecounter: Killing the Peace Process
The Coordination of Democratic Rights Organisation (CDRO) group put together a team of concerned citizens which visited Wankadi mandal, Adilabad district on 20 and 21 August 2010 where the alleged encounter of Azad, also known as Cherukuri Rajkumar, who was the spokes person of the CPI (Maoist) and Central Committee member, and journalist Hemchandra Pandey took place on the intervening night of 1 and 2 July 2010.

Three fact-findings had earlier already carried out spot investigations. The team met the local villagers, local police, and local media personnel and perused the first information report, and the inquest and postmortem reports. The FIR number (crime) 40/2010 registered at the Wankadi police station of Adilabad district by the Station House Offi cer, Mansoor Ahmed at 9.30 am on 2 July 2010 mentions the deceased as unidentified Maoists. The police story raises several questions.
