Voices of Dissent, Reason and Imagination
This refers to Aaliya Anjum and Saiba Varma’s narrative “Curfewed in Kashmir: Voices from the Valley” (EPW, 28 August 2010). It is disturbing to know the plight of people of Kashmir.

But when you come across people from civil society like doctors, writers and journalists, one definitely expects a much more nuanced assessment and response. Unfortunately my friends from Kashmir have taken a line of thinking where everything is perceived in terms of us vs them. Illustrations of this are in abundance in the narration like “Indian Mainstream Media” vs “Kashmiri Media”. I would like to know from our friends in the Valley, where would they put publications from Jammu in their narrative? Where would they put the pages of EPW in their narrative?
