HINDUSTAN ZINC Capacity Expansion Hindustan Zinc (HZL), a Vedanta group entity, is said to be one of the lowest cost zinc producers in the world. The cost of production at HZL is estimated at $ 560 a tonne and this is expected to be reduced further. The company is undergoing a $ 300 million expansion in 2005-06. Its 154 MW captive power facilities will be operational within a short duration and will reduce the cost of power. As Asian countries plan to expand their infrastructure, the demand for zinc is likely to increase. Such rising demand assures a widening of the market for the company
