North-Eastern Council : More Devolution of Powers

The 45th Session of the North-Eastern Council (NEC) concluded in Delhi with the usual platitudes about the region’s endemic insurgency and the announcement of several ‘new’ development packages. Despite the NDA government’s attempts to advertise its commitment to the region by setting up a new department for development of the north-east, its approach has not been very different from that of previous governments.
