Uttar Pradesh's cultural organisations are being dyed saffron. Some examples.
In this article, I will describe the broad cultural scene of Lucknow against the backdrop of certain academies run by the Uttar Pradesh government. I will take up the UP Sangeet Natak Akademi, UP Lalit Kala Akademi and UP Hindi Sansthan.
Normally, the main function of the UP Sangeet Natak Akademi is to encourage performing arts, especially vocal and instrumental music, dances and drama and also to document them. In such academies there should be little or no scope for definite ideological leanings. But during the last few years, especially since 1996, the ideology of the ruling party has intervened.
