EPW Research Foundation COCHIN REFINERIES New Ventures COCHIN REFINERIES was established in Kochi, Kerala, in 1963 under an agreement between Phillips Petroleum of USA, and the government of India to process 2.5 mtpa of imported crude. Phillips Petroleum, which initially held a 26 per cent stake, disinvested Us entire holding in 1988-89. The government of India, as a part of its disinvestment programme, sold a portion of its equity in 1992-93 to bring it to its current level of 55 per ceni. The company diversified into petrochemicals in 1993, converting polybutenes into propylene trimer, malcic anhydride, etc.
