JANATA DAL Hegde's Politics A correspondent writes:
WITH the sudden expulsion of Ramakrishna Hegde from the Janata Dal (JD), the proxy war between him and the prime minister H D Deve Gowda has come to an end, and a phase of open warfare has begun. The rivalry between these two political stalwarts from Karnataka has a Long history. In flew Hegde from Delhi and became chief minister. It happened in the 1994 assembly elections, when Deve Gowda became chief minister only after conceding the deputy chief ministership to J H Patel who belongs to the Hegde lobby. Even in the civic, panchayat and Lok Sabha polls in all of which the JD put up a remarkable performance, most of the campaigning was done by Deve Gowda.
