The Ayodhya Judgment-Encoding Secularism in the Law

If the differences between the majority and the minority judges are a reminder of the indeterminacies, choices, preferences and selective emphases in the law, the Ayodhya judgment of the Supreme Court must also reinforce the warning that struggles within the legal system have to he fought over. This was a case about the government's package solution on Ayodhya which the minority found invidious and the majority had to virtually rewrite and re-package. But when alt is said and done, the majority judgment is not a juristic victory for secularism and may trouble the secular cause for many years to come.
