Ambedkar's Legacy to Dalits Has the Nation Reneged on Its Promises?
P Radhakrishnan Ambedkar contemplated various means for liberating the Dalits and enabling their deliverance from depriva- ion and social stigma to development and social respect but his legacy to the Dalits is primarily the constitutional safeguards for the scheduled castes. This paper takes stock of the fate of this legacy with a view to establishing if the nation has honoured it or reneged on its commitments.
