associates had pocketed a total amount of Rs 8,42,250 by depriving the owners of the transferred land of the same amount.
The aggrieved villagers then formed an ad hoc committee with Yubaraj Limbu as its secretary on January 5, 1988 and lodged a complaint with the additional deputy commissioner, Dimapur, praying for investigation and appropriate action. Instead of taking action against the offending persons, the local administration, however, decreed on July 5,1988, that the deprived villagers would have to pay Temjen Jamir, whom the villagers had accused of cheating, a sum of Rs 78,700.
