Gramsci's Intellectuals and People's Science Movement Kameshwar Choudhary ANTONIO GRAMSCTs concepts of Organic' and 'traditional' intellectuals arc not uncommon in top intellectual circles. But we have to be very cautious in using these terms. A serious problem is that even some scholars and intellectual activists commit mistakes in the understanding and application of these concepts. One such example, we find, in the paper presented by K P Kannan at the National Seminar on 'Secularism in India' organised jointly by the Indian Academy of Social Sciences and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Bombay during September 25-27, 1989 (published in EPW, February 10, pp 311-13).
