RBI Survey of Small Industrial Units KGK Subba Rao R P Pathak THE first part of the article 'Some Aspects of Small Scale Industries in India: Findings Based on Two All-India Sample Surveys' by R Nagaraj (EPW, October 12, 1985) is based on the Survey of Small Scale Industrial Units conducted by the Reserve Bank of India in 1977-78. The article fails to give a proper account of the scope and coverage of the survey.1 The survey was conducted during 1977-78 and the reference period for the survey was the accounting year ended during April 1976 to March 1977. The year of conducting the survey and also the reference period of the data were wrongly mentioned in the article. Further, the survey covered both registered as well as unregistered small scale industrial units assisted by commercial banks and coming within the purview of the Credit Guarantee Scheme. The statement made in the article that the survey excludes unregistered units is incorrect. Apart from these, a few other comments on the study are detailed below.
