Preferential Deal for Cotton Growers MAHARASHTRA chief minister Shivaji- rao Patil Nilangekar told the state legislative council meeting in Nagpur on January 22 that he had written to the Centre regarding certain adverse effects the new textile policy was likely to have on the powerloom industry. Maharashtra's concern about the possible implications of the new textile policy is understandable. The state accounts for nearly one-fifth of the country's total cotton production and 60 per cent of the country's powerlooms are located in the state.
