However, the working group itself does not think this feasible and there- lore proposes a lower production target of 2.65 lakh tonnes in the terminal year of the next Plan. 'The gap between output and demand would thus be almost the same as today. Achievement of even this lower target would mean an annual increase in production by around 16,000 tonnes in the next six years. In order to meet this target, the working group has proposed expansion of area under natural rubber by one lakh hectares over the Seventh Plan period or 20,000 hectares per annum, from the present level of 2.42 lakh hectares.
