Import Policy Escape from Technology Planning IMPORT policy is going through an uncertain phase. The government appears undecided. Reports based on 'internal thinking' in the Commerce Ministry have suggested that some of the liberalisation measures may be rolled back. On the other hand, the Commerce Minister, Viswanath Pratap Singh, has recently stated that the basic liberal orientation will continue. Trade and industry circles are also vacillating. Their shifting stand reflects internal division between users and producers of imported raw materials.
