in Argentina in the wake of the surrender of Argentinian troops on June 15 at Port Stanley, the junta promptly found a scapegoat and got rid of General Galtieri who was both chief of Army and President of the country. Though a General has been appointed as the new President, another General, Crisnno Nicolaides, is to be the new army chief. Galtieri himself told journalists that he was resigning as the army was not giving him political backing to continue as "army commander and the President". There hast also been the promise, made by the airforce chief, that the 1976 decree banning political activities; would be' lifted sometime in July through a statute to this effect This new statute would "begin a process of reorganisation of the institutions of the republic''.
