Extra-long staple cottons have been the worst sufferers from the glut. Their prices have come down most sharply and a number of states are actually taking steps to reduce the area under these cottons. There are optimists who talk of India emerging as an exporter of long staple cotton, but export prices for our cotton are likely to be 85 cents per Ib or even lower in the near future.
