THE government is in all earnest about promoting investment abroad by Indian businessmen. In a speech to the Calcutta Chamber of Commerce earlier this month, the Minister of State for External Affairs disclosed that his ministry was currently strengthening its economic wing so as to enable it to identify opportunities for Indian businessmen to set up joint ventures in other countries. The government is also said to be considering setting up a separate organisation to help locate projects and perform other services for intending Indian investors abroad
