All this makes the task of enforcing family planning an even more delicate one now. One only hopes that the new government will have the will and courage to attempt it. The Opposition will do well to resist the temptation to play on the people's sentiments by whipping up bogies and latent fears fostered over the nightmarish Emergency period. They should, instead, treat family planning as a priority programme for the nation and assist the government in its unenviable but all too necessary task of implementing it Teachers Grasp the Moment A CONVENTION of the Association of University Teachers of Madras (AUT) was held on March 3, 1977, to consider, as its president put it, "the serious predicament in which the entire teaching profession in Tamil Nadu finds itself at this juncture''. The Convention concluded by adopting a resolution calling upon all teachers to boycott the invigilation and valuation work of the March 1977 examinations if their demands were not conceded by then. This followed an earlier resolution of the Madurai University Teachers Association (MUTA) to boycott the examination work as the government had failed to solve even their ''basic problems".
