IVAN Alien's views on education, social change, health care, or political systems, have been very controversial and original. His views command considerable respect even if they are disagreeable. His Centre for Intercultural Documentation at Cuernavaca, in Mexico, has been doing outstanding work in shaping a social policy for the new world. In his latest book, "Energy and Equity", he makes a searching examination of the role of personal transportation systems in modern society and their equity. While transportation is a major consumer of energy, a better title for the book might have been "Transportation and Equity".
