Having realised that adequate supply of electric energy to the rural areas, yields handsome political dividends, Ministers have been spending much time and energy on this problem. On June 6, at Simla, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh agreed in principle to collaborate in the execution of various projects aimed at utilising the vast hydel potential of the hilly state of Himachal. The two states decided to define the mode of co-operation. They then appointed a 'working group' to work oft the details of the accord. This group included the chairmen of the states' Electricity Boards, their financial and technical experts, the Chief Irrigation Engineers, and representatives of their respective Law and Finance Departments.
