Larger Margins Despite Higher Costs Hansavivek POLYOLEFINS INDUSTRIES, engaged in manufacture of high density polyethylene and processing of polyethylene products, is seeking an industrial licence for setting up a project in MP for annual production of 70,000 tonnes of calcium carbide. Estimated to involve a capital outlay of Rs 20 to 25 erores, the project is likely to he financed partly by a 'rights' issue of capital. Of the total production, some 40,000 tonnes will be sold to NOCIL (National Organic Chemical Industries) and the remaining quantity to Hoechst Dyes and Chemicals, which has plans to establish a plant in MP for production of vinyl acetate monomer. Meanwhile, PlL's scheme for stepping up capacity for high density polyethylene from 20,000 tonnes to 30,000 tonnes per annum is in the final stage of implementation. A plant for the production of n-Butene-1 with a capacity of 600 tonnes is also being installed. During 1973, PIL's output of high density polyethylene increased from 19,046 tonnes to 22,997 tonnes and of processed polyethylene products from 1,398 tonnes to 1,827 tonnes.
