Should not maximising the production of the textile industry mean raising the output of these types of cloth so that millions of women, men and children all over the country may find it possible to buy their first saree, dhoti, frock or pair of trousers? This is not what seven-day week, thought up by Bombay's Congress politicians and the owners of the few mills which dominate the MOA aims at. Its objective is to raise the production of the fine, superfine and blended fabrics that these mills specialise in, so that, with the help of slick advertising and high-power salesmanship, the middle and upper middle classes can be pur- suaded to add to the variety and colourfulness of their already well- endowed wardrobes.
