Nearing Solution
February 22, 1969 Equally welcome is New Delhi's reported decision to launch a multi- pronged drive for raising the yield of cotton over the next five years. It has already earmarked tentatively a sum of Rs 3.9 crores for this purpose and more funds are to be made available when necessary. The production drive includes measures like double cropping, intensive cultivation, intensification of package programme at both Central and State levels, mass plant protection measures, etc. It is proposed to establish over 2,000 demonstration plots all over the cotton-growing tracts so as to serve as visual aids to convince farmers of the necessity of improved techniques. The proposed production drive has everything to commend. But Government could look forward to quick and even spectacular protection measures.
