The preceding analysis sharpens our understanding of the changes taking place in the occupational structure to a much greater extent than is possible from the analysis of aggregate Census data on occupational distribution of working force. It should, however, be pointed out that the usefulness of the present analysis is somewhat restricted inasmuch as it does not help us in identifying a) certain structural factors functioning as restraints on occupational mobility, b) the extent and pattern of vertical mobility, and c) social and political correlates of a particular pattern of occupational mobility. For a fuller understanding of the phenomenon of occupational mobility and its implications for social, political and economic development, deeper explorations are necessary.
