But the problem could be very different for the left parties that have contented themselves with negative criticism of Congress policies and programmes without over caring to make a positive evaluation of the economic and social problems facing the country. If indeed Gulzarilal Nanda and Atulya Ghosh were cleverer strategists than they are, they would allow the left opposition parties not only to win a majority of seats but also form a government. They would have only to wait and watch the coalition government not only get involved in interminable disputes, but also get entangled deeper and deeper into the trap of the very economic problems which provide them with their vote catching slogans. A left coalition party will not be able to do anything whatsoever to solve the food problem, or hold prices, or relieve unemployment. Only marginal or even a token non-co-operation from the Centre would suffice to render the State Ministries completely helpless and Atulya Ghosh would be able to devote his talents to organising mass movements against them and throw them out.
