2019: Read Excerpts from 19 of Our Best Book Reviews

In 2019, EPW reviewed over 100 books. Read excerpts from 19 reviews that left an exceptional mark on our editors.

EPW publishes two reviews of books written by established and emerging scholars and authors every week. Our goal, with book reviews, is to enlighten researchers, students, professors and other readers with knowledge about new developments and approaches in research and methodology in the social sciences, economics and current events. Our book reviews offer a chance to detail and critique varied positions held by thinkers at the forefront of their disciplines on pressing and complex issues. Usually, Indian economy and contemporary politics form a large portion of the books we receive for reviews. This year marked M K Gandhi’s 250th birth anniversary and we published several book reviews on seminal works published on his life and legacy. We also received many books on modern Indian and global history, enriching the depth of our archive. We published several articles on important subjects such as fiscal asymmetry between states and domestic workers in contemporary India and their mobilisation.
