Through Bawa's Eyes
Inspired by Anupama Mohan’s article titled ‘Geoffrey Bawa and Ludic Modernism’ (November 21, 2020 - vol lV no 46), this artwork by Dhritimay Sarkar attempts to capture Bawa’s architectural philosophy that focuses on polystylism. Integrally shaped by natural elements like trees, flowers, and aquatic bodies, Bawa's landscapes make use of straight and curved lines in interesting ways, an aspect that the artist has adapted in their graphic image. Bawa's modernist architecture enmeshed vernacular sensibilities and cosmopolitanism, resulting in his signature style of, what Mohan calls, ludic modernism.
