Research Radio Ep 1: What Interventions are Most Effective to Address Domestic Violence?
In this episode, we speak to Shireen J Jejeebhoy and K G Santhya about the experiences of women who have experienced domestic violence, and the role of crises centres in Bihar.
Do crisis centers, that are located in every district in the country, cater to the needs of women who have experienced domestic violence? Two researchers, Shireen J Jejeebhoy and K G Santhya, aim to understand not just whether violence has reduced after women reach out to crises centers, but also if women's overall well being has improved. We will learn about why institutional methods largely fail women, the normalisation of violence against women by men, and changes that can reduce violence and improve women's wellbeing.
They will be sharing insights based on their article published in Economic and Political Weekly on 20 April 2019 titled "Access to Facilities for Women Experiencing Domestic Violence: Impact on Well-being and Experience of Further Violence."
