Can it be doubted that India's interest in an independent Bangla Desh is largely motivated by the desire to secure a huge market for India's products and Indian capital? There is, of course, no comparison between the suave and civilised ruling class of India and the brutal and barbaric soldiers in power in Pakistan, All the same, if independent Bangla Desh did come into being under the leadership of the Awami League, there might well have been just a change over from one form of colonial exploitation to another.
