Is There a Gender Dimension?
D Das S B Agnihotri Introduction DOES the incidence of physical disability have a gender dimension? The question has policy relevance for many reasons. First, the rehabilitation cost for a given disability, whether social or economic, is likely to be higher for females compared to males in our society. This has a bearing on the preventive and rehabilitation measures that are needed. Analytically too, the reasons why the incidence of a particular disability is higher for a particular sex is important.

Missing Females A Disaggregated Analysis

S B Agnihotri The problem of sex ratio imbalance in India needs a disaggregated analysis. The absence of such analysis masks the seriousness of the problem among certain groups and in certain areas. This paper presents data on the female/male ratio for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and the rest of the population. While further disaggregation among various subgroups is necessary, the data presented here help to identify some major problem areas.
