Further lowering down of the ceilings on holdings will also have its elicit on mechanisation. This study shows that, if the average size of the holding is lower than 22.5 acres, it may not be very feasible for the farmers to profitably operate the tractor. The idea of establishing co-operative tractor stations in various villages was also discussed with several farmers and responsible officials, but it did not seem to gather much ground, mainly because of factionalism in the villages and also because during certain times of the year tractors arc constantly needed by the farmers and hence they would much rather own them independently. The same is true for various implements too.
