Trust and the desire to inculcate need in an atmosphere of pervading fear and uncertainty appear to have emerged as guiding factors in recent elections witnessed in Anglophone democracies. Distrust seems to be a factor borne out of the prevailing circumstances. Contrarily, in areas such as west Asia and India, where violence and uncertainty have been the norm, voters have expressed their will freely and are cynical about appeals to trust and the fear factor.
