B V Rama Rao Transport projections in the Fifth Five-Year Plan indicate that the total goods traffic to be carried by the Railways will increase by over 50 per cent to between 300 and 350 million tonnes per annum. This will require a massive investment in augmenting line, yard and rolling stock capacity. The present fleet of 4 lakh wagons will need to be expanded during the Plan by another I lakh wagons.
